Have you often felt that we can work to avoid serving soda and pizza at community meetings? Been astonished by the amount of food and packaging waste generated at a community event? Wondered how your residents can afford to eat healthy on their low-wage budgets?
Food Justice is the right of communities everywhere to produce, distribute, access, and eat good food regardless of race, class, gender, ethnicity, citizenship, ability, religion, or community.

How can nonprofit developers contribute and participate in the growing food justice movement? Developers are playing a critical role in addressing healthy food access and meeting the nutritional needs of their residents through the creation of onsite community garden initiatives, community-supported agriculture projects (CSAs) and other creative programs focused on getting fresh and affordable produce to people most in need – and much more.

Participants will be inspired by an experienced group of experts and panelists. Panelists will share their knowledge by reporting back on their experiences with community supported agricultural programs, community gardens, onsite farmers markets, artisanal food production, commercial kitchen development, community markets, and special needs job training programs.

The workshop will conclude with a discussion of potential barriers and solutions, and identify next steps to energize a critical and emerging piece of our programs.

When should an organization begin to consider in implementing a food program?
What are the benefits of having a food program at your nonprofit?
What are the pitfalls of having a food program as well?
How does an organization plan and develop the best model?
How much does it really cost and what considerations are needed to be made?
